Recent Aloha Place Volcano Review: "This hotel was interesting and charming. It had a library with an extensive complimentary book, movie, and music collection. They ask you to leave your shoes outside, but provide slippers. The rooms are individually decorated, each with its own personality. The management was a bit strange, however. Check-in is at exactly 3 pm, and if you come any later, you pick up your check-in materials, including the key, from an envelope attached to a bulletin board. We checked in and out without every seeing a person, which made us wonder what we would do if we had any problems. We also tried calling the hotel for two days prior to our arrival, and no one answered the phone, nor was there an answering machine. Once we got settled we enjoyed our stay, but it's not for someone who has any service expectations for the hotel."

Aloha Place - Inn of Volcano is located in Volcano, Big Island, Hawaii. Less than two miles from the from the inn is the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which covers 209,695 acres and offers hiking and sightseeing opportunities. The Akatsuka Orchid Gardens is approximately five miles from the property, and Kamokuna Beach is less than an 18-mile drive. This 1920s inn offers a lava rock fireplace, a library and an assortment of Polynesian antiquities and other relics. Complimentary chocolates are offered upon arrival. Fax and photocopy services are available. Board games, a video library and a CD player are offered. Coolers are available for daily outings, and flashlights are provided for nightly lava viewing. Pets are not allowed. Three guestrooms with private bathrooms and private entrances are offered at Aloha Place - Inn of Volcano. Select rooms include cable television, VCR/DVD players and radios. Mini fridges and coffeemakers are provided in all rooms.

| Difficult to find, no representative on site. Had inadequate advance information, once there had to find the right clues. Room was very small, nicely decorated with two small twin beds. Some thoughtful things (like flashlights for after dark touring of lava flows) were provided. The place does have character and a great library. The house is cold at night and there is a "No shoes" rule. |
