Recent Castle Review: "We stayed there so we could daily visit the volcanos. Sufficient ammenities to be very helpful--other than a microwave would had cost us $5.00 a day to rent. Appreciated the quietness, adjustable airconditioning, good mini-refrigerator, dark curtains for window. The porch would have been fun if we had time and the weather was better. Decorations/antiques in the lobby were VERY interesting and loved the basket of orchids and hairpins for the guests at the front desk."

Overlooking Hilo Bay, the Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel enjoys a beautiful location in Hilo, Hawaii. Hilo is a quaint, flower-filled retreat with Victorian homes and a restored downtown area that experiences more rain than any other American city. The Big Island of Hawaii offers a plethora of recreational opportunities. From surfing and scuba diving to volcano and waterfall exploration, there is something for everyone. Old banyan trees line the drive to the hotel, most of which were planted in the 1930’s by celebrities such as Babe Ruth, Amelia Earhart and Cecil B. DeMille. Mauna Kea looms in the background and the arched bridge that leads to Coconut Island is only steps from the doors of the resort. The hotel is flanked by a beautiful beach, the Liliuokalani Gardens and the Naniloa Country Club.

Sugar was once king in Hilo. Now, the town is known for its bay, shops, and farmers market that teems with exotic fruit. Swaying hips abound at Hilo’s Merrie Monarch Festival, a week-long hula contest held after Easter. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is nearby. There, Kilauea is the hottest attraction as one of the world’s most active volcanoes. At its helm is Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess.

| The Castle Hilo Hawaiian hotel was a great hotel. Conveniently located near the airport and about 45 minutes from the Volcano National Parks. The room was very clean and neat and the people at the front desk were very nice and helpful. |

| We like this hotel because its very spacey, the Lobby is wide & the fresh air passes thru, the cark park is good as well, (we don't trust the valet park system,) we prefer to park our own car. The room is spacey and neat, bathroom is clean, in the next trip I like to be in this Hotel, because everything is good!!! |

| Well this hotel had mixed ratings before we booked it so we were nervous. It is definitely an older hotel but it was clean and the hotel staff were friendly. The decor and furniture were probably from the 70s but I can't complain too much since it was conveniently located next to the Bay and the Airport. |

| Hotel shows severe signs of wear and tear. Maintenance could be better. The air conditioning unit in our room failed in the late evening and we had to pack up and change rooms as maintenance could not repair. Compared to other similar hotels in the area it is a tad pricey for less amenities. |

| No Hotel in Hilo is really up to par. This hotel is good enough, but old and not your typical resort hotel. Room had overwhelming smell of smoke, and beds very hard. But location is good and it was what I was expecting for this area. |

| I thought hotel was old but very well maintained,grounds were very neat, rooms are clean, I thoroughly enjoyed this property,I would definately stay again if in the area. Price not bad for this hotel either |

| Hotel is getting rather rundown in appearance. Be sure to ask for a remove away from the trash bins and the hundreds of birds which roost in the trees at one end of the hotel. |

| For the price, I was surprised by the location - right on the bay, on Hilo's famous Banyan tree drive, and the rooms - all appeared to have a nice sized balcony on the bayside- were large with comfortable beds. The hotel appears to be older, but well maintained and very functional, with a very friendly, helpful staff. The restaurant is very large, with a good buffet that included refilled alcoholic drinks (in my case that nearly payed for the buffet!) |

| We arrived late and were given a room with one king bed. As the reservation was for two adults and two kids we preferred two double beds. Although one of the kids had already made themselves at home in the king bed we asked to change rooms and were given one with two double beds. The new room was a corner room with windows on two sides which we opened. Unfortunately there were some loud young adults in the parking lot below carrying on various conversations which we could hear and which kept us awake when we wanted to be asleep. The staff was very friendly though and the hotel, while older, was clean. |
