The bed was comfortable, spectacular view of ocean. Would have liked free internet, larger pool. A/c not necessary with the fans provided. There were lots of linens, kitchen supplies. A couple of kitchen towels would be helpful.Appreciated free local phone calls. The chairs on balcony were not very comfortable. A couple of lower, comfortable chairs  would have been great. We read that there was a problem with ants! There was no problem at all with ants.

Kahana Reef Condos are older but comfortable and our unit had updated kitchen but other unit family stayed in was not updated. Very homey feeling in neighborhood. Close to Lahaina if you have a car. Recommend it.

The room was newly remodeled with granite and tile. The view was breathtaking and there was a constant cool ocean breeze throughout the place. You could fall asleep to the sound of the ocean waves. Truly paradise.

So to be fair, we were satisfied with Kahana reef 316 overall, it had a kitchen, bathroom (no tub), big king bed, and even a crib (arranged delievered by another company for rent). However there were some serious drawbacks. The biggest one for me were the ANTS. I mean, living in a tropical environment must have more than its fair share of ants. But  isn't there something you can do to keep them from swarming all your food when you put it on the counter? Some bug spray? Ant traps? Maybe all other places have ants, but probably not. This place was considerably older with a meager selection of cooking implements. If they fixed this and the ant problem it would be quite a very nice place to stay. As far as location though, unless you have a reason to be this far northwest, I'd recommend staying closer to the activities/airport, in Kihei for instance. We attended an event in Lahaina, but it was just one day and I regret not staying in Kihei, since all the attractions are closer to centrally located Kihei.

The condo was very nice although the bed was too hard. Whe we checked in we are told to keep our doors and windows locked at night and be careful during the day. There have been issues in that whole area recently and the third day we were there the police were looking for a person suspected of drug activity and trespassing on the property. Travelers should be aware that this general area has problems and there are properties available that have much more security than this one. That being said the condo was very nice and had just been remodeled and for the money was worth it. I suggest staying above the ground floor so the window and door issues are a mute point. There are very nice public beaches in the immediate area. The small beach to the north of this property is private and we were reminded by the residents not to use it for that reason.

My wife and I have been coming to Maui 2 to 4 times a year for 10 plus years. I would say we have made 30 trips or more ( I have business inn HI). We have always stayed in condos. It's cheaper, we eat better because we cook our own meals, and if you're smart you can find an oceanfront condo. what would you prefer, a quiet 1 BR on the freaking ocean with whales, turtles and other fauna lurking about (yes, sharks, they're everywhere in HI) in a rwsidential neighborhood, or a loud, crowded resort with no amenities and screaming curtain climbers everywhere. We go there to take care of biz and to surf. I want to be able to check the surf from my lanai before I decide if I am going to work that day or not. By the way, we commandeer the dining table for our "West Maui Office" and eat all meals on the lanai. In fact 95% of time in the condo, not sleeping, is spent on the lanai. This place does not have a beach in front,. though there is a nice beach that can be accessed next door that is small, and can get mostly covered on a high tide. If you like to explore the island and have a killer, quiet place to hang out in your down time, this is the place for you. If you want to be surrounded by a zillion people and screaming monster children from Des Moines, and get served overpriced, watered down fruity drinks from a pool side bar, go to Kaanapali. There are local and turist bars and restaurants within walking distance as well as a McDonald's. Killer Happy Hour at the Sands of Kahana beachside bar. It's a secret spot, but ask around and you'll find it.

Kahana Reef-I have stayed at this property a few times (first time was a LONG time ago). The overall property has aged and doesn't look like much when you drive in but you absolutely can not beat the view! Great sunset action here, you are right on the water and the grounds are kept nice. We were in Unit 117 this time (units vary on decor depending on the owner). This one was updated, very nice...tile floors, tile on the (ground floor highly recommended!) lanai, kitchen very big with new appliances. We were very pleased. The only bad thing I can say about this unit is the sleeper sofa in the living room awful. Definitely needs to be replaced as it appears to be broken (head lower than the rest of the bed!). Otherwise, I loved the Kahana Reef!

The Kahana Reef is acceptable. The condo rooms are starting to show their age. The furnishings leave a little to be desired. The plastic coated mattress was unnecessary. Beyond that though, the location is great, the view is superlative, and the price was nonpareil. In all, it was a good budget deal and I'm pleased with my experience

I thought the room that we stayed in needed some work. I did not smell very good and I was told that we got the worsed room in the building. I felt that we could have received better accommodations for the money we spent.
