Recent Kona Coast Resort Review: "We spent 2 weeks on Big Island, and 1 week was here. We expected a large room with some cooking facilities, but found a full apartment (kitchen, dining area, living room, bedroom, spacious bathroom and a huge balcony) with fully equipped kitchen and washing machine and dryer for clothes as well and air conditioning in bed- and living rooms. In the same  building there were 6-7 other apartments in 2-3 floors (all with their own entrance and balcony). The nearest shopping centre is just across the street, although it's a big street, and there are walls surrounding the retreat so it's not that easy to walk there. The street noise was virtually nonexistent due to the wall and the geography of the place (being located on a rather steep slope of a hill). We had neighbours only for a few days (off-season), but based on those days I would guess that when the place is full, it may not be very quiet (in the tropical climate there's not much need for heavy insulation so sounds travel through walls and floors) -- still more quiet than most hotel rooms, though, but one would be aware that there are other people (even families) living around them. We didn't have any problems, though -- on the contrary, in fact; we were located next to the "quiet pool", where there was soft ambient music and tranquil atmosphere, and plaques saying that this place was to be kept peaceful and quiet (and showing where pools for kids and more noisy spashing can be found), and when there one time was a group of kids playing and splashing by the pool, the hotel staff politely guided them to the other pools after we had asked if they could do so (we like quietness more than kids, admitted). So if you want a quiet place, try asking if you could be located near the quiet pool; on the other hand, if you plan on having parties at your apartment, this side of the retreat may not be the best place. Many of the apartments appeared to be time-share places and may not be available for hotel quest; on one hand th"

Recreation

The resort has two adult pools and a children's pool, three spa tubs, and a dry sauna. An exercise center with locker rooms and showers is in the main pool complex. Also on site are a three-mile jogging track, a sand volleyball court, tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, a basketball hoop, and a children's playcenter.

The Kona Coast is renowned for its white and black sand beaches, as well as excellent diving and deep sea fishing in the calm offshore waters. The nearest beach to the resort, less than half a mile west, is dark and rocky, better for snorkeling than sunbathing. Sandy beaches are about two miles away. Fishing and sailing charters, equipment rentals, and adventure and sightseeing tours are available through the activity desk or through marinas and shops in Kailua-Kona.

    A short guide to Kailua-Kona

Kailua-Kona is the epicenter of shopping and recreation on Hawaii’s western shore. Big-game fishers delight off its waters, while shoppers reel in deals along Alii Drive. The Kailua-Kona area is a hiker’s paradise because many of its best beaches are accessible only by foot. Inland, the scent of coffee permeates the air as plantations harvest precious Kona beans. Nearby coffee farms open for tours.
