Recent Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation Review: "This was our 2nd stay at the Kiahuna Plantation last week. To me, it's a pretty good combination of vacation rentals by owner with some of the conveniences of a hotel. Since they are individual condos, you don't really know what you're getting. On the plus side, the layout of the unit is uniform. The one bedroom condos are nicely laid out maximizing  the living/dining area. I don't know if all units adhere to some standards. But, the two times we've stayed (different garden view units), they were both nicely updated with nice kitchens. Also, they did service the room with fresh towels and making up the bed. The unpredictables are that each unit owner equips their place differently. In our case, there was a small closet that had a beach umbrella, a boogie board, a croquet set. The kitchen was fairly spartan with basic dishes for 4. In the cabinets -- not even salt and pepper. So, that's something you can't plan for until you get there. The beach at Kiahuna is a narrow strip, but a very nice beach nonetheless. We also enjoyed the pool that is across the street. Our unit was actually fairly close to the pool. It's a small pool, but our 9-yr old really enjoyed the small waterslide. I recommend the Plantation to anyone who wants to stay in Poipu."

The former plantation house instills an aura of tranquility and captures the nostalgia of 19th century Hawaii. The Moir Gardens feature fantastically-formed cacti, ancient lava-rock walls, lagoons and artifacts such as a grinding stone from Hawaii's first sugar plantation. Guests have access to the Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club with its lagoon-style pool, jetted tub and waterslide. Ten tennis courts, a pro shop and an activity hut complete with towels, snorkeling equipment, boogie boards and sunscreen exist on the property. Barbeque areas are sublimely scattered about the property, and the Plantation Garden Restaurant serves contemporary Hawaiian cuisine. The helpful staff can assist with concierge, tour and recreation services and also rent video tapes and arrange massages. Guest laundry facilities are located on site and wireless Internet access is available in public areas.
A short guide to Poipu

On Kauai’s south side, Poipu is known for its gentle waters, which make snorkeling and swimming ideal; Mahaulepu Beach and Shipwreck Beach are among the favorites. Nearby, the Kauai Coffee Company, Hawaii’s largest coffee plantation, is open for tours. West of Poipu, sweeping vistas greet visitors at the Waimea Canyon, while the surf and lava collide at the Sprouting Horn.
