Recent Outrigger Waikiki Beach Review: "We stayed for two nights at this hotel on the last leg of a 13-day trip to the islands. I wanted to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, having stayed there before, but they were all booked, so after reading tons of reviews, I chose this one because of location (on the beach, across the street from the International Market), price (VERY reasonable compared to Maui!!) and 3 great restaurants on the premises. Sometimes hotels in heavily-trafficked resort locations can be beat up, so I was being very choosy. We were delighted with everything. We walked the beach all the way from this hotel up to the Hilton and back, and I have to say that this location had the softest sand along the entire stretch (others had small stones, shells, rocks, etc), whether it's just luck or they have anything to do with it. Since we arrived late at night, we just wanted to eat in the hotel. We were thrilled to get into Chuck's Steak House with no wait (and a table with an oceanview, no less!) although the scallops were drowning in butter, so if you order the steak and scallops or any kind of fish, you might want to tell them to go light. The next night we ate at the Hula Grill (the coconut seafood chowder was amazing!) which actually had entertainment. Maybe I'm just shocked because after 11 days on Maui and the Big Island, everything shuts down at 9pm and nighttime entertainment is non-existent. There are shops in the hotel which as reasonably-priced, too. The only drawback is that it is valet parking only, although we never had to wait long for our car. Another good thing: we noticed there are no street-facing rooms so it seems like all rooms have a partial oceanview. We payed for a standard room-with-no-view since we were only there for a short time and not going to be in the room much anyway, but we had a lovely view of the ocean from our 8th floor balcony. Note: There are several Outrigger hotels on this stretch, like 5 or 6; we didn't go in any of the others, but if they're like this"

| A short guide to Waikiki |
|
Waikiki established its reputation as a getaway when the Moana Surfrider opened its doors in 1901. Today, more than 30,000 hotel rooms are packed in the skyscrapers along the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. At the end of Waikiki, Diamond Head towers as an enduring landmark. West of Waikiki, Pearl Harbor offers a somber testament to history and the victims of World War II.
