A short guide to Kailua-Kona

Kailua-Kona is the epicenter of shopping and recreation on Hawaii’s western shore. Big-game fishers delight off its waters, while shoppers reel in deals along Alii Drive. The Kailua-Kona area is a hiker’s paradise because many of its best beaches are accessible only by foot. Inland, the scent of coffee permeates the air as plantations harvest precious Kona beans. Nearby coffee farms open for tours.

Description

Location. Overlooking the deep blue waters of the Pacific, Castle Kona Reef, a Condominium Resort, enjoys a location convenient to shopping, dining and entertainment in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Part of the allure of the Big Island is its contrasting geology. Active volcanoes, shimmering waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, tropical rainforests, a glacial lake and miles upon miles of golden, black, white and even green-sand beaches occupy an area smaller than the state of Connecticut. Guided walking tours of the historic Kailua-Kona area make great daytime excursions, and there are plenty of recreational pursuits available, including snorkeling, scuba diving, horseback riding, kayaking, golfing and parasailing.

Hotel Features The resort features an outdoor pool and jetted tub with a large sundeck surrounding. Adjacent to the pool area is a picnic area with gas grills, a food preparation counter, a sink, a table and chairs. The staff provides concierge service and safe-deposit boxes. A business center is located on site and wireless Internet access is available.

Hotel Rooms. Each of the condo-style units offer furnished balconies with ocean or garden view. Full kitchens come with refrigerators, ranges and microwave ovens. Other amenities include dial-up Internet access, DVD/VCR, CD stereo and cable television.

Expert Tip. On the other side of the island visitors can check out one of Hawaii's most scenic waterfalls, Akaka Falls, via a paved path that loops through a rainforest. Fantastic views of the 442-foot falls and of nearby Kahuna Falls can be found at the observation point.
