Recent Uncle Billys Kona Bay Review: "Uncle Billy's is a wonderful hotel that, yes, has drawbacks, but is perfect for the single traveler (like me!) or for those on a budget. Also, what I liked, is that it is NOT RESORT-Y NOR TOURISTY. It gives you a local-vibe when you stay. Pros: --> Great location! Within distance of great shops, bars, and beaches. --> Pleasant service. The workers  were very nice. No problems at all. --> Cozy bed. --> Meets your needs if you don't plan on staying in the hotel 24/7. Cons: --> The best beaches are 10 minute drives away (at the very least!). It's not a problem with this specific hotel, but note that if you want to do a lot of stuff, you'll need to rent a car or get taxis everywhere (MY RECOMMENDATION --> GET A CAR!). --> Parking is $5/day + tax. --> Needs renovation. The AC was okay (not up to my standards, but it worked and I wasn't sweating) and a bar near the sink that holds towels broke. Overall I would stay here again, given the low price for the area, the surrounding neighborhood and overall good service. If you like to do a lot of things when you travel, and not just stay at a resort like a typical tourist, this is the place for you. Otherwise spend the extra money and go to the Sheraton."
