Recent Volcano Kilauea Accommodations Review: "First, the "hotel" was not a hotel at all. It was a furnished HOME. We loved it! It had a nice big living room w/tv and day bed. Full kitch with dining room. 1 bedroom had a king and the other had a queen. Lots of glass, no neighbors, only jungle. Extremely quiet all night. I suppose they have a number of units they rent, so yours may differ. Ours was great. Ask for "Hoku Mana" unit
The only negative things were:
1. not enough pots/pans to cook with(sor)
2. No heat. Had to use electric heaters which they provided. Still kinda cold."

The Volcano Hale is located in Volcano, Hawaii. One mile from the property is the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which features hiking and sightseeing opportunities over a diverse landscape that includes Mauna Loa, the earth's largest volcano. The Mauna Loa Strip Road offers views from the side of the volcano and access to trailheads for hiking. This historic country house is set against the verdant, tropical landscapes of the Hawaiian Ohai and Hapu'u National Forests. A fully equipped common kitchen is provided. Breakfast services are available for a fee. The lounge room offers a fireplace and cable television. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available. Pets are not allowed at the property. The guestrooms at the Volcano Hale share two fully stocked common bathrooms. All rooms offer one or two beds with 200-thread-count linens and nightstands.

| VOLCANO KILAUEA ACCOMMODATIONS was a great value for our one night stay in Volcano. Only negative was having to share a bathroom with one other guest, but our schedules never conflicted and that wasn't a problem at all. The room was clean with a nice king sized bed and the location is excellent right in Volcano and close to the National Park and many restaurants. Great place to stay for the value! |

| The town of Volcano, adjacent to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, has only guest house and B&B lodging right now (06/2010). The Volcano House Hotel, inside the Park, is on long-term closure for renovation. Volcano Kilauea Accommodations is actually a group of separate buildings with a central one for check-in and continental breakfast. The super budget place I stayed in is down the road a piece from the main complex. Basically, you get the use of a beautifully decorated three story house. Shared bath was no problem -- the only other guests were on another floor with another bath. |

| The Chalet Kilauea Collection is a set of four or so different properties sprinkled throughout the town of Volcano. We were staying at Volcano Hale.
The staff was both friendly and helpful (e.g., tips on local spots to eat, the Volcano farmer's market, and pointers to an amazing side-of-the-road coffee stand) and the structure itself was very nice, with a great layout -- three bedrooms (+ shared bath) on the ground floor, a kitchen and common area on the second floor, and more bedrooms (+ shared bath) on the third floor. The rooms had plenty of space to store luggage and clothes, nice beds, and were clean.
The only downside was that there was a definite smell of mold in the Volcano Hale building -- our room smelled of it slightly and the kitchen/common area had it more distinctly. Given the amount of rain this area of the island gets, it seems like better precautions could be taken. |
