For the price, the Hotel is good. The front desk was nice (although very strict on check-in time at 3pm), nice lobby, great/safe/convenient location, and fairly clean room. Nice to have a business center with free internet (10c printing). BUT the rooms (at least on the 12th floor) are quite old and same with the bathroom; therefore, it doesn't feel too sterile but it wasn't dirty. My biggest gripe were the beds. Pretty uncomfortable and I'm not super picky about my bedding. The location is great but also in-between two busy streets, so even at the 12th floor you could hear loud aftermarket exhausts, but its not so bad. The pool is tiny, it would only be worth getting wet if you had little kids with you. It barely feels like a 3-star hotel but at the rate I paid I am content. All in all, with bedding aside, I would recommend the hotel for travelers on a budget.

This hotel has now started to charge for breakfasts. Because I booked my room before July 1st, that did not apply to me. However, coffee for my in-room brewer was no longer provided without a fee. The complimentary breakfast was pretty bad. The selections were sparse and never varied. The coffee was weak and luke-warm, the milk and fake orange juice all seemed to be watered down. The area was not kept clean and the tables appeared to never have been washed. In a time when I have found complimentary breakfasts to be more and more elaborate, this hotel is going in the extreme opposite direction.

Upon check in, we asked the front desk for a bottle opener. He opened our wine for us, but didn't tell us the ice machine was located on the 8th floor! So I had to go searching around for it and finally returning back to the lobby when he told me. The ocean view room had a good view, but the bed was old, as was the carpet and the furniture was out-dated. Also, we had a refriderator, but no microwave. When my husband went to ask if the front desk had a microwave he could use, they CHARGED him for it!

Great location especially if you don't care to spend all your time in your hotel. The 16th floor has the best balconies by far and is the only floor to stay on. The staff is friendly but we were disappointed that the posted price for parking was much lower then what they actually charge. Though they stated they just hadn't updated their handouts it still felt a little like bait-and-switch.

I've stayed here twice. The first time, everything was somewhere where between fine and pretty good. The rate was great for Waikiki. I understood that this meant that I probably wouldn't get most modern room, and everything at least met expectations. On the second visit, everything as mostly adequate. The room seemed to be a bit more run down than on the previous visit (nothing glaring, just overall age of the furnishings, especially the textiles). The breakfast, on the other hand, sank to new levels of "why bother" and was only white toast, some low-quality bagels, water, and juice. Previously, there had been some fruit and yogurt, but no more. This was not a big deal - just an excuse to go get malasadas - but the breakfast was at a point where it hardly seems worth the trouble to advertise or offer it. Also, the hotel's complimentary Internet access is wired-only, so bring a network cable. On my first visit, they had cables at the front desk; they were out on the second visit. Give the current offerings, I'd argue that this hotel should not be advertised as including Internet access or breakfast since neither is particularly usable. Other than that, the experience seems about right for the price in Waikiki.

Finding the place was very hard because their sign of waikiki gateway hotel was small. Its a great place to stay it was cheap and it had a/c and thats all I cared about.

Been there one day for a conference. The location is good, just a few blocks from the beach. Room is clean and the staff are friendly. Breakfast is a disappointment, too many people and too little food. Bottom line, worth the money.

This was our second stay at trhe Gateway. We found the hotel to be a great economy hotel in a location that is close to the local shuttle and bus routes and therefore easy to get to the beach and shopping

I paid for a deluxe room and it was definitly not that. It was suppose to have a view, but the only view was of the roof of the building next door. One good thing is that it is directly on several bus lines for convenience. There are only a couple of places to eat in the area without walking a long way or taking the bus. The hotel was clean enough but starting to run down a bit in the room I had. There is a convenience store attached to the hotel for quick snacks, liquids, and souveniers. There is a lanai to sit on but no view to enjoy in the room I had. Some rooms I have had there had an ocean view or street view but this one was a dud. If you can get one of the penthouse roomsw (only a little. more) I would advise to do so since they have big screen TV (verses tiny) and a balcony with a view. Some of the folks working there were very kind, others not so much. The business center has free computer access. That was a plus.
